The concept of Mother Nature represents the personification of nature itself in the form of a mother, focusing on nurturing and giving nature life. According to Wikipedia: The word "nature" comes from the Latin word, "natura", meaning birth or character. In English, its first recorded use was in 1266. Variations of the theme have been found in history in different groups around the world.

You may interpret my depiction in this painting of Mother Nature here as stern or concerned. Some may even see sadness there. None of them are wrong. In light of the human impact upon the world, she would naturally be concerned and saddened as nature itself is not an artificial construct. She's looking straight ahead and wants you to pay attention and honor her in all her glory. Be mindful of the flora and fauna on our planet.

The hummingbirds represent the movement of life and flow of nature. The falling leaves represent change and renewal, life and death. The flowers represent hope. Hope that more people will see and appreciate the natural beauty contained in the world. The encroaching city in the background represents our impact on nature and the need for mindfulness while we coexist.

The biggies series of paintings by artist Shelly Taylor are 18x24" and UP - they are painted on a 1.5" deep gallery wrapped pro canvas. Once completed, the edges are painted black and the painting is varnished.

The biggies series are painted on a heavily textured surface. While it takes extra time to paint on this challenging surface, it adds a unique dimension to the finished work. The first practice pieces were urban scenes, but going forward these pieces are a celebration of womanhood and powerful feminine energy.
