artist statement
When she's not playing around exploring street scenes and abstraction, much of Shelly Taylor’s art has been inspired by women. Women in early photography, the Victorian era, suffragettes, flappers, silent films, early talkies, old Hollywood glam, 60s mod women, 70s liberated women, and more. Women ARE so much more. Leaders, workers, inventors, movers, shakers, fighters, lovers, mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, neighbors, and friends. In painting women, she is honoring them.
Shelly is an artist who remains curious, and eager to learn, explore, and experiment in various mediums and techniques. She’s a creator who enjoys playing with textures, colors, and imagery that engage and captivate an emotional connection with the viewer. Shelly’s end goal is to give something back to the world that has been both cruel and generous to her.
